How long does the airport run take from Kilkenny?
The honest answer is that it depends on the hour you travel, so these are the times we actually plan around rather than best-case figures.
| Destination | Main route | Allow |
|---|---|---|
| Dublin Airport (T1 & T2) | M9 → M50 → Port Tunnel | about 1 hr 45 min – 2 hrs |
| Cork Airport | N76 → M8 | about 2 hrs – 2 hrs 15 min |
| Shannon Airport | M8 → M7 | about 2 hrs 15 min – 2 hrs 30 min |
| Dublin city centre | M9 → N7 | about 1 hr 30 min |
| Rosslare Europort | N30 / N25 | about 1 hr 30 min |
The stretch that catches people out is the M50 between roughly 07:00 and 09:30. For a morning flight out of Dublin we normally suggest leaving Kilkenny about three and a half hours before departure — that covers the drive, the M50, and time to check a bag without rushing. For an early flight, that often means a 03:30 or 04:00 pick-up, which we do most weeks.
Kilkenny City pick-ups
We collect from anywhere in the city — the Parade, John Street, High Street, Castlecomer Road, Loughboy, Newpark, Kilkenny MacDonagh station and MacDonagh Junction. Hotel pick-ups are straightforward: tell us the hotel and we will meet you at the main entrance at the agreed time rather than making you find the car.
If you are staying at Lyrath Estate, Mount Juliet, the Newpark, the Pembroke or Hotel Kilkenny, give us the room name the booking is under and we will check in at reception if you are not outside.
North & West Kilkenny
Castlecomer, Ballyragget, Freshford, Urlingford, Johnstown, Tullaroan and Callan are all inside 30 minutes of the city, and all are regular early-morning collections for us. Urlingford and Johnstown sit close to the M8, which makes them quick runs towards Cork and Shannon. From Castlecomer you are looking at roughly two hours to Dublin Airport door to door.
South & East Kilkenny
Thomastown, Inistioge, Graiguenamanagh, Bennettsbridge, Gowran, Goresbridge, Ballyhale, Knocktopher, Mullinavat, Piltown, Mooncoin, Kilmacow and Ferrybank are all within our normal area. The southern end of the county is closer to Waterford than to Kilkenny City, so if you are in Ferrybank or Mooncoin the routing is often different — mention where you are and we will plan it the sensible way rather than driving you north first.
Outside County Kilkenny
We regularly collect from Carlow town, Waterford City, Clonmel, Cahir, New Ross and Portlaoise. If you are somewhere not listed here, ask — if it is a reasonable run we will quote it.
Dublin Airport: which terminal do you need?
Dublin has two terminals and they are a walk apart, so it is worth getting right. Terminal 2 handles Aer Lingus and most long-haul carriers. Terminal 1 handles Ryanair and the majority of other airlines. Tell us your airline when you book and we will drop you at the right door.
Coming home, send us your flight number. We watch the arrival time, so if you land early or late the driver moves with it and you are not paying for a car that turned up at the scheduled time and waited.
Ferry ports and stations
As well as the airports we cover Rosslare Europort, Dublin Port, Kilkenny MacDonagh railway station and Dublin Heuston. Ferry sailings and early trains are the same problem as early flights — the trick is leaving enough margin, and we would rather build that in than have you make the call at 04:00.
How far ahead should I book a rural pick-up?
For Kilkenny City and the larger towns, a day or two is usually plenty. For a village pick-up before 06:00, or for anything needing the 16-seater, give us as much notice as you can — a week is comfortable. Bank holiday weekends, the Kilkenny Arts Festival and match days at Nowlan Park are the times we fill up first.
